Reiki originated in Japan, founded by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and has evolved over the last century as a result of his research, experience and dedication.

Rei meaning ‘universal life’ and Ki ‘energy’. Energy is all around, maintaining and nourishing us. When our Ki is balanced, we feel fine, when our Ki is unbalanced, we can become vulnerable to physical and emotional illness.

A Reiki treatment can help the body emotionally and physically, it can be empowering and feel like a wonderful energy flowing all around you and through you. When I give Reiki, I treat the whole person, this includes the body, mind, emotions and spirit. The benefits can be remarkable. Reiki is a very gentle, soothing treatment. The recipient remains clothed and lies on a table or sits on a chair whilst relaxing. I gently place my hands on or near the body in a non-intrusive, respectful way. No massage or manipulation takes place. The whole person is treated rather than specific areas. Sessions can take 45 minutes to an hour depending on the client’s needs. Reiki practitioners are not trained in diagnosis and will not predict any specific outcome from treatment. Reiki treatment can be received alongside other conventional medical or complimentary therapies, to aid recovery and alleviate side effects working for the highest good.

What can I expect while recieving Reiki?

Each persons experience of Reiki will be unique and is dependent on their needs. You may or may not feel sensations during a treatment. Deep relaxation is often experienced, accompanied by a feeling of peace, calmness and well-being. The Reiki energy may be experienced as heat, cold, tingling, a floaty feeling or the seeing of colours. There can also be an emotional response, helping to shift negative emotions, creating harmony, allowing your body’s balance to be restored. As well as this, it can work on a physical level, bringing much needed relief to troublesome areas by activating your own body’s natural healing ability, allowing one to cope with lifes challenges.
