Reiki originated in Japan, founded by Dr Mikao Usui. Rei means ‘universal life’ and Ki ‘energy’. When our Ki is balanced, we feel fine, when our Ki is unbalanced, we can become more vulnerable to physical and emotional illness.
A Reiki treatment can be empowering and feel like a wonderful energy flowing all around you and through you. When I give Reiki, I treat the whole person this includes the body, mind, emotions and spirit. The benefits can be remarkable. Reiki is natural and safe. It has been effective in helping in many illnesses. It can work together with other interventions to aid recovery and alleviate side effects.
Reiki is a very gentle, hands-on treatment. The recipient remains clothed and lies on a table or sits on a chair whilst relaxing. I gently place my hands on or near the body in a non-intrusive, respectful way. No massage or manipulation takes place.
Each person’s experience of Reiki will be unique. You may or may not feel sensations during a treatment. The Reiki energy may be experienced as relaxing, peaceful, energising, hot, cold, tingling, or the seeing of colours. There can also be an emotional response, helping to shifting troublesome emotions, allowing your body’s balance to be restored. As well as this, it can work on a physical level, bringing much needed relief to troublesome areas, by activating your own body’s natural healing ability. Receiving Reiki is a wonderfully passive experience. Just let the Reiki energy relax you, your state will shift quite naturally as the session proceeds. You may wish to daydream, enjoy the music, or simply observe your breath or the sensations of the therapy.
After a Reiki treatment you may feel relaxed or energised, some may feel more centred or notice other changes throughout the day, such as being less reactive, happier, as if a weight has been lifted, this sort of experience is a healing response. There is no ‘normal’ response as each can be different. Quite often after Reiki you may sleep more soundly or have vivid dreams. It is recommended to drink water, and listen to your body’s needs.
Reiki will always benefit, you don’t need to be ill to receive Reiki, it can help transform your life and well-being, allowing you to become more relaxed, more positive and trust in life. It is a gentle, non-invasive, effective treatment relieving tension and stress, and is suitable for everyone, babies, children, adults and animals.
While a single Reiki treatment may be beneficial and relaxing, the best results come from having a course of treatments, maybe 4 to 6 on a weekly basis. The effects of Reiki build up cumulatively, having a course can help to produce long term beneficial changes on many levels. Having regular Reiki treatment’s thereon is excellent self-care and can help maintain a holistic balance.
There are no known contra-indications for Reiki.
